Mister

Mister is an artisan ice cream shop that uses liquid nitrogen to make its ice cream; this creates a denser, smoother texture than you would find with regular ice cream. The pricing ($17.33 for those two cups pictured below, ouch) certainly reflects its Yaletown location, but it felt worth it to try at least once. I will admit that the cups also look deceivingly small; with the density of this ice cream, a little goes a long way!

Creme Brûlée and Double Oreo

The Double Oreo was velvety and creamy in texture, but felt like a dud. It didn't really taste like Oreo and even ignoring its name, it didn't taste great otherwise - like a washed out chocolate flavour.

Creme Brulee

I love creme brulee and really wanted to try an ice cream version. They torch the sugary top (AKA the brûlée) right in front of you, which adds some fun showmanship to the experience (probably built into the price which would explain why it's so damn expensive). The person in front also ordered the creme brulee, but they torched the crap out of hers and it was way too burnt. I was relieved they didn't make the same mistake with mine. There wasn't much of a crack when I smacked the top. It became a bit soggy and squished into the ice cream below it, causing the top layer to melt. It's a fun, interesting idea, but maybe not the most practical. It would probably have been better without the brulee, as the ice cream was silky smooth and dense, plus you could see real specks of vanilla in there. This one brought what the Double Oreo couldn't - flavour!

Will I be back? Probably not, at least not for a while. There are too many delicious ice cream shops at much more reasonable prices.
