Cactus Club - North Burnaby
For the most part, I try to avoid restaurant chains and opt for more local and/or unique fare. As a result, sometimes I forget that the food can actually be quite good. Chain restaurants such as the Cactus Club in North Burnaby may not be the most original, but you can usually depend on the consistency of their food.

Frosé
With summer nearing its end, I scrambled to hop on the frosé train before it was too late. This drink was super refreshing and not too sweet, but sweet enough so someone who doesn't ordinarily like wine could be won over. The only improvement I can suggest is to offer this in a pitcher size :)

Thai Red Curry Pacific Lingcod
I'm used to red curries having at least some level of heat to it, but this one reminded me more of a yellow curry, being extremely mild in heat (actually, I don't think there was any spice to it at all) and being creamy (maybe even a hint of sweetness!). Having said that, this curry was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly with a nice sear on the outside, and the crispy wonton skins offered a nice contrast in texture. Unfortunately the dish could have used at least one more scoop of the curry sauce, as there was barely enough to accompany the amount of fish and rice in the dish. I would definitely order this again though.
Overall, I know I'll be returning to the Cactus Club. Its location is convenient, and you know you're going to get good food in a nice environment.
